The "Flag" gear resets the printer and tells it when a new cartridge has been installed.

This flag gear has the ability to transform a TN-550 cartridge (TN-3130 and TN-3145) into a High Yield TN-580 cartridge (also TN-3170 and TN-3185) and is a needed upgrade with our Toner Refill Kits for Low Yield cartridges.

A new cartridge prints light when first installed . When the flag gear resets the printers toner low message, it will print at a higher voltage to make up for the low voltage on the new toner cartridge. This increases your print quality and as the cartridges page count increases the voltage slowly diminishes. This ensures perfect quality printing throughout the life of the cartridge until the toner is low and is refilled.

The flag gear resets the "Toner End Life" message and will make the printer think you just installed a new cartridge which will reset the voltages to begin a new "cartridge cycle".
Starter cartridges can be refilled with this flag gear saving you money. You can get 2-3 (we've gotten as many as 6 refills on this cartridge) refills before the cartridge parts wear out and the print quality diminishes. At that time you will have to purchase a new OEM or remanufactured cartridge (which will already have this gear installed on it).
