Customer FAQs:

What is the difference between HP 80A and HP 80X?
The HP 80A and HP 80X are basically the same in all aspects. They are both monochrome toner cartridges that are compatible for use on the same set of HP LaserJet Pro printers and come from the same cartridge family. Thus, their part numbers begin with 80.

These cartridges only differ in page yield rating or the number of pages it can print. HP 80A is the standard yield cartridge and can turn out 2,700 pages at 5% page coverage. The HP 80X on the other other hand is a high yield cartridge as denoted by the letter X on its part number. It can print 6,900 pages at 5% page coverage.

The yield rating also implies a price difference between the two cartridges. SInce the HP 80X offers a higher page yield, expect it to have a higher price point. If print jobs are far in between, the HP 80A would be sufficient for your needs. But if you turn out high volume print jobs every month, we recommend ordering the HP 80X cartridges.

How to install HP 80A toner cartridge?
Install the HP 80A CF280A black toner cartridge to the laser printer by following these steps:

  1. Open the top cover of the printer to access the toner cartridge assembly.
  2. Using the cartridge handle, pull out the empty toner cartridge from its slot.
  3. Retrieve your 80A CF280A toner cartridge. Remove from the box and protective plastic.
  4. Look for the orange clip on the new toner cartridge and pull it upwards.
  5. Loosen and evenly distribute toner powder inside the toner cartridge. Do this by gently rocking the cartridge back and forth while holding both sides.
  6. Bend the tab found on the left side of the cartridge until the tab breaks loose. Pull the tab until all the sealing tape is removed from the toner cartridge.
  7. Place the tab and tape in the toner cartridge box to return for recycling.
  8. Align the new toner cartridge with the tracks inside the printer. Thereafter, push the toner cartridge until it is firmly seated into its slot.
  9. Close the top cover of the printer and you’re done. You can now continue using your printer.

How to refill HP 80A toner cartridge?
Most HP toner cartridges require you to use a hole making tool to perform cartridge refills. So you need to secure a hole making tool to easily refill an empty HP 80A toner cartridge.

  1. Remove the empty toner cartridge from the printer.
  2. Plug the hole making tool into the outlet and let it heat up for about 30 seconds.
  3. Use the hole making tool to create a fill hole on the rear side of the cartridge’s toner assembly.
  4. Fill the toner cartridge with a new shot of toner powder using a funnel cap.
  5. Plug in a cap or aluminum tape over the fill hole to prevent accidental toner spills and leaks.
  6. Reinstall your refilled toner cartridge and continue processing your print jobs.

The hole making tool and refill kit are available on our webstore. Please visit the links below.

Will using a remanufactured toner cartridge void the laser printer’s warranty?
Definitely no. As a printer user, you have the choice to use your preferred consumable brand. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act protects your right as a consumer.
