Kodak Printer Ink: Never throw empty Kodak cartridges, learn how to reuse

Kodak printer ink in cartridges are bruited to be the cheapest, and offer consumers savings. Once it empties out, more savings can be had if ink cartridge is not disposed of immediately, instead do ink cartridge recycling.

Before even thinking of the garbage bin consider this: Recycling the six Kodak ink cartridges by using refills costs about one OEM cartridge, a savings equivalent to five OEM ink cartridges is realised. If a 425 page yield cartridge for instance costs around $20, the user gets to save $100 if one resorts to ink cartridge recycling. This is expected because a complete ink refill set, costs approximately one OEM ink cartridge.

However, to do refills is like going through a simple obstacle course, because a miscue in the process and ink leaks. So, it becomes important that the following sequences must be observed more closely when doing refills:

1. Cover the area where refill would be administered to avoid ink leaks that may otherwise contaminate important documents.
2. Remove the empty ink cartridges from the printer, and when necessary start with the black cartridge.
3. Peel the label out since it is used as seal of the ink opening, a black cartridge has one opening. The color cartridge meanwhile have five, one each for yellow, glossy, magenta, cyan and black. A black cartridge holds 10ml and color 5ml of ink each.
4. The next step is use the syringe to deliver ink into the different empty cartridges. Take out the syringe cover and sip ink from the refill kit (container) and administer into opening by pushing the plunger and ink into the chamber.
5. Once refill is completed, pull out the syringe and use running water to clear it of excess ink. That’s about it, the refill is now complete.

Before installing the cartridges back to the printer, the user need to replace the reset chip or page counter, otherwise printing will not be possible. The reset chip functions as an auto stop electronic mechanism that cause the printer to shut down once print limit is breached. Everytime refills are made, the reset must also be replaced. All complete ink refill kits include sets of reset chip inside.

In the end if considerable savings is the concern, one must do ink cartridge recycling, after each expected life of a Kodak printer ink cartridge.
