At the rate printer cartridges are manufactured, the world will run out of landfills, imagine around 400 million cartridges annually find their way into these facilities. Toner cartridge recycling should be made obligatory, since only in toner recycling can we preserve the environment.
Take these facts, overproduction has affected not only the air we breathe but also the non-renewable reserves of the planet. If we can recycle just around 100,000 printer cartridge, it would have saved 1,000 kilograms of aluminum, 40 tons of plastic and 1 million liters of oil. At this rate we continue to deplete the world’s resources, not counting the pollution of the atmosphere that manufacturing brings.
Our society is into the culture of waste, since the majority of users (70%) just toss their empties into the garbage bins. We just don’t care the harm it promotes and never think of the economic benefits recycling offers. A used empty cartridge can be reused six times, three to four times by refilling and when print defect appear, they are refurbished or remanufactured until it runs out of options.
For those not interested in reuse, they can extend a little effort to return the empties, some companies offer 2 dollar reward for each cartridge returned. Or just call recycling facilities, they provide services like picking up the cartridges or they give pre-stamped envelopes so it can be sent by mail free. Better yet, sell your empty cartridges to companies that makes recycling their business.
To avert catastrophe toner cartridge recycling must be obligatory, laws must be passed to this effect. Toner recycling should be center stage, not relegated to the bins of silent protests.
Remember, the survival of the planet depends on us earthlings, things we do must be for the preservation not destruction. This is the only place we have, and the resource is not unlimited, so each must contribute.
